10+ Foot Security Poles Are an Integrator’s Biggest Headache. Here’s the Fix.

Let’s cut to the chase. Security poles are the bane of an integrator’s existence.

On paper, they sound great. Ranging from 10 to 14 feet tall, these security poles maximize a camera’s field of view and pass wireless signals across long distances. Extra height means fewer obstacles that can obstruct the camera or interfere with the transceivers, making them perfect for outdoor and perimeter security applications… right?

Yes and no.

That’s what they’re intended for, but the problem is that most poles aren’t properly built for this. When they’re done right, security poles are ideal for securing industrial sites, construction zones, campuses, parks – even specialized settings like impound lots, distribution and logistics facilities or marine projects where signals need to reach across water.

Unfortunately, too many people DIY their own poles, using low-quality materials like wood, which flexes. Then it becomes an issue of physics: The taller the pole, the more it bends and sways – not just from wind, but from vibrations caused by passing trucks, heavy machinery and shifting weather conditions. What seems like a minor movement at the base turns into major instability at the top. It’s like the top of a tree swaying in a storm.

Now mount a camera to that. It’s no wonder it ends up shaking like a leaf on a tree, resulting in blurry footage and an unhappy customer who either blames you or the camera manufacturer. If the latter, the OEM probably blames you for the install. It’s a lose-lose-lose that we’ve seen way too many times.

Even with anti-vibration technology built into most security cameras nowadays, it can only compensate for so much. If the pole itself is moving, there’s no way to get a truly stable image. That’s why settling for a flimsy pole doesn’t make sense when a stronger, properly engineered solution is readily available.

Don’t Let Cheap Poles Ruin Your Installation (and Reputation)

You guessed it – it all comes down to choosing the right pole for your installation, one that’s specifically engineered to eliminate movement.

Poles with heavy-duty construction have reinforced base plates with welded gussets that add rigidity. The size of the base plate matters too. The taller the pole, the larger the base plate, creating a sturdy foundation that won’t budge.

Our 6x6-inch steel, powder-coated poles are built to withstand the elements while providing rock-solid stability. Plus, the square shape increases the surface area for mounting equipment, offering much more flexibility than round poles.

All of this reduces movement, stabilizing cameras and other mounted tech. No more shaky footage. No more frustrated customers. No more service calls to fix a problem that should’ve been avoided in the first place.

But it’s about flexibility too – yours, that is. We know every install is different, so customization is built into our design. Need specific heights? Pre-drilled wiring access? Multiple mounting points for up to four cameras on a single pole? No problem. Start with our baseline design, then tell us exactly what you need. We’ll handle the rest.

So, next time, avoid the headache and hassle altogether and choose the right pole. Because once you do, everything else falls into place.
